The Mass Save New Homes program is dramatically shifting for all projects completing after June 30, 2017. Most projects will result in a reduced rebate

Mass Save New Homes Program

If you are building a new single family or multi-family home, this incentive program is a no-brainer. Don't be put off by the administrative requirements. We will hold your hand through the entire process until you receive a nice check. A certified HERS rating is required in addition to sections of the Energy Star Thermal Enclosure System Rater Checklist

As a Certified HERS Rater, we are approved to deliver the following incentives through the Mass Save Residential New Construction Program.

2017 - all projects completing  after July 1, 2017

The Massachusetts utilities are shifting the incentive structure from a tiered system to a 'Blended Savings Approach'. Projected energy savings are calculated from HERS rater software. This is expected to result in reduced rebates for nearly all projects. As energy codes require more efficient homes, utilities are increasingly limited by the level of savings they can claim through the new construction rebate program.

Rebates are calculated as follows:

Participant Incentive = A * kWh + B * MMBu + C * %Savings

A= $0.35/kWh   B= $35/MMBtu    C= $3,000 single family project (1-4 Units)  = $2,000 multifamily (5+ units)

Program requirements as detailed in the Application still apply.

Mass Save Mechanical System rebates

For projects finishing after June 30, 2017,   mechanical system rebates are not available on a per unit basis. These system rebates are bundled into the savings calculated in the Blended Savings equations.

System rebates may be available through other programs, such as the MassCEC. However applicants should be aware of 'double dipping' in more than one Mass Save program.

Connecticut Residential New Construction program

In the performance path, there are three tiers of incentives based on a confirmed HERS index. The  program requires a confirmed HERS rating and is very straight forward.

  • Tier I :   HERS 70 - 61      $3,000
  • Tier II :  HERS 60-50       $4,000
  • Tier III:  HERS <50           $4,500 + $50 per point below 50

Additional rebates are available for Energy Star Certification and additional high performance building certifications.   Multi-family rebates are slightly lower and are allocated per unit.
